Baby update week 35

February 18, 2010 (Originally Sent)

I felt absolutely horrible yesterday, could barely walk, couldn’t eat and let’s just say my body was cleansing itself. I was having little contractions but those were the least of my worries. I had a doctor’s appointment today but called the office to see if they could move me to yesterday. The response was “get to the downtown office in the next 45 minutes”. I told them I didn’t really feel well enough to go all the way downtown (the office is in the hospital complex) The nurse said if you don’t feel good enough to come here then you definitely need to be here. So I called Dave who flew home, loaded me up and then drove as slow as he possibly could to the office.

We saw the on call doctor, if she is delivering when I go Dave has instructions to call any other doctor he can find to deliver, including our vet or my dermatologist. She looks 12. She measured me and announced I measured 41 weeks. Last week I measured 46. She also said I was 1 cm dilated. Last week I was 2+, you don’t go back once you start dilating. The appointment went poorly to say the least. She was mainly interested in running strep test than determining what was going on. Finally she said we should got to Labor and maternity and left the room. I went and found her and asked her if we were supposed to go now. “Oh, yeah, I wasn’t coming back.”

“Dave, do not let Doogie Tran near me or the boys!”

She forgot to call an orderly so we walked across the hospital which took a very long time. We got there and the nurses were very concerned about what happened to us. We didn’t know any better. So they hooked me up and started monitoring. Contractions every 3 minutes. Dilated to 2 cm and 60% effaced. They monitored all three of us for several hours and the delivering doctor came in, Dr. Neuland. We have always really liked him. I wasn’t any further dilated but I was not 75% effaced. So he gave us a choice. Stay at the hospital and spend the night see if we could get things moving a little more or see if we could stop the contractions. Choice was ours. Miserable at the hospital or miserable at home. I chose home. They gave me the shot but it didn’t stop contractions just slowed them down. I had also had 2 bags of IV fluids. I was very dehydrated. I could be another 2 hours or another 2-3 days. It is unlikely That I will go another couple weeks. We are thinking it will probably be early next week. Contractions really don’t stop. Sooner or later they won’t slow down.

Should I make it until next week I go back to perinatal next Wednesday for weigh and measure and on Friday for regular doctor. I am betting we have a live weigh and measure before then. We will keep you posted.
